A senior Saudi official has said belonging to the so-called al-Qaida terrorist organization is "haram" or prohibited in Islam, the Dubai-based al-Arabiya TV channel reported on Tuesday.
Speaking to Saudi paper Okaz, Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Bin Nasser Al- Obeikan, Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court, said that any one belonging to
al-Qaida or any of its sub-organization is belonging to the outsiders of Islam.
He described al-Qaida as a group that has left the people of truth and taken up Takfeer thought (Takfeer believes that anybody does not believe in
Islam should move away from Muslim land).
Al-Obeikan called on Saudi members of al-Qaida in Yemen to return to the kingdom and surrender themselves to the authorities.
