A four-day training workshop on community entry, mobilization and techniques was held for 40 volunteers from the Talensi Nabdam District in the Upper East Region and the West Mamprusis
District in the Northern Region, in Bolgatanga.
It was organized by the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) and facilitated by ProNET North, both non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
It was aimed at equipping the participants with skills to enable them to assist ISODEC, Link Community Development, ProNet North, National
Secretariat and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to implement a new educational project.
The project dubbed, "Tackling Education Needs Inclusively" would be implemented in the Talensi Nabdam District, West Mamprusis District in Northern Region and Jirapa District in Upper West.
The Regional Manager of ISODEC, Mr. Jonathan Adabre said that the Project funded by Comic Relief, a UK-based organization through the
Voluntary Service Oversees (VSO), aimed at improving basic education in the Northern part of Ghana.
He said that teachers including national volunteers would be trained and motivated to assist pupils, particularly girls, to learn at home and in school.
Mr. Adabre noted that under the Project, a platform would be created for community leaders, members of civil society organization and
stakeholders in education to collaborate to improve on education.
He said that the training workshop would empower the participants to be able to mobilize community leaders and support them to work with
stakeholders to address community, social, and cultural barriers to quality education delivery in Northern Ghana.
Mr. Adabre cited withdrawal of daughters from school for marriage and focusing on boys' education to the neglect of educating girls.
He said that teachers and volunteers in basic schools would be trained and motivated to support pupils, particularly girls, to learn at home and in school.
Mr. Adabre said that under the Project, a platform would be created for community leaders, members of civil society organization and stakeholders in education to collaborate and improve on education.
Mr Erasmus Awuni, Programme Manager of ProNet North, and Mr. Kilian Atuoye, Project Officer of the Project, facilitated the training.
