A circuit court judge in Kumasi, Mr Justice D.W. P. Amedior has expressed concern about the rising disregard for road traffic regulations and called on the Police to intensify efforts to restore sanity on the roads.
He also complained that some drivers operated vehicles without valid documents and in most cases with dysfunctional safety devices.
Justice Amedior expressed the sentiment when three drivers, Charles Oti, Ebenezer Adam and Stephen Marfo appeared before the court for traffic
offences including driving without driver licenses and possessing expired income tax stickers.
Oti could not remember the registration number of the Mercedes Benz bus he has been driving.
A total fine of GH¢720.00 was imposed on the drivers who pleaded guilty.
They would serve jail terms ranging from two to six months if they fail to pay the money.
The Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit in Kumasi had launched a joint operation with the Driver Vehicle and License Authority and the
National Road Safety Commission to check indiscipline among drivers in the Kumasi Metropolis.
