Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, on Thursday called on leadership of the Church to make the Church a "repository of truth and uprightness."
He appealed to the leadership to stem all issues of abuse and extortion in the Church so that it could "stand tall on integrity."
Mr Amenowode said this at the 2010 Ho Presbytery Conference of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) at Ho-Fiave on the theme, "Faithful
stewardship: Key to Divine Blessing."
Mr Amenowode said challenges of the world were imposing greater challenges on the Church and urged its leadership to stand up to the
responsibility.
He said for example issues of sexual offences in the Church were becoming rampant and were making the Church an institution of ridicule.
Mr Amenowode said moral decadence in general was on the increase and creating image problem for the country and appealed to the Church to help resolve the challenge.
He commended some churches for their social interventions in formal education and health and urged it to continue to partner government in
bringing development to the people.
Mr Amenowode said government remained committed to fulfil its "better Ghana" agenda and that it was creating the enabling environment for
accelerated socio-economic development.
The Reverend Wilson Emmanuel Ashigbie, Presbytery Chairman of the Ho Presbytery, commended government for its commitment to bettering the lives of the populace.
He urged it to be faithful to promises it made to the people and the pledge to fight corruption and to run a transparent government.
The Rev Ashiegbe said the church was resolved to continually pray for the State and called on the populace to support government in its quest to
enhance socio-economic development in the country.
