Mrs. Stacy Adams, Chief Executive Officer of Raleigh International, on Wednesday urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities to develop their career and lead responsible lives.
Raleigh International is a British based International Voluntary and Youth Development and Charitable organisation committed to give young people a chance to explore the world and discover their potentials.
"Young people in Ghana should develop a sense of purpose in life because there are lots of good projects and leadership training programmes in this country," she said.
Mrs. Adams who is currently visiting Ghana gave the advice when she paid a courtesy call on the Osu Mantse, Nii Nortey Owuo III at his palace.
She was accompanied by her husband and Technical Adviser to Raleigh International as well executives of Raleigh Ghana, which included Steve Folson, Technical Adviser, and Michael Nmai Markwei, Country Director.
Mrs. Adams noted that it is only through hard work and unity that would enable the youth to build their confidence and develop leadership qualities.
"There are different people from different backgrounds who must come together to share ideas and undergo personal development and leadership
training programmes to contribute their quota towards the country's economic development," she added.
She said Raleigh Ghana had so far trained 250 young people between 20-35 years, adding that the aged would soon be absorbed into some of the
development training programmes.
Mrs. Adams said most of the trained youth are embarking on youthful projects in their communities.
Nii Nortey Owuo appealed to Raleigh Ghana to consider running exchange programmes for the youth in Osu to enable them tap the experience of people outside Ghana.
He expressed his appreciation to Raleigh International and called for more interactions in order to strengthen relations between the people of Osu and the organisation.
Mr. and Mrs. Adams were honoured with a traditional cloak for their efforts in promoting youth development.
From 1999 to 2006, Raleigh International undertook various developmental projects with governmental and non-governmental organisations
in all the 10 regions.
As leaders and members of a team working together to make a difference in the lives of people and communities with expeditions, Raleigh
International has provided a vibrant volunteerism workforce and adventurous programmes in environmental conservation, health and education projects.
