The Association of Students of Social Work (ASSOW) of the University of Ghana in collaboration with the Management of National Lottery Authority (NLA) on Tuesday presented items to the inmates of Osu Shelter Home in Accra.
The items included 10 bags of rice, cartons of beverages, detergents and toiletries.
It formed part of activities marking the week-long celebration of ASSOW.
Mr Stephen Yeboah, President of ASSOW, who presented the items said the visit was to enable the students observe conditions at the home and assist the inmates in their practical training.
He said ASSOW had begun implementing a five-year programme this year, which involved visiting under-privileged children and remand juveniles and impact them with skills and techniques to help them to reform.
Mr Yeboah observed that under-privileged children needed special care to improve their living standards.
Mr Twum-Barimah Reagan, Public Relations Officer of NLA said management supported ASSOW because their activities were in line with NLA's corporate responsibility to empower society through its operations.
Mrs Georgina Mensah, Acting Manageress of the home, who received the items appealed to ASSOW to be ambassadors for the home.
She thanked them for the visit and appealed to other associations to emulate their gesture.
