Mrs Grace Ayaitia, Deputy Director of Nursing Service of the Ghana Health Service, has called on Ghanaians to take active interest in physical education and sports to enable them to remain healthy at all times.
She said taking regular exercises would not only make one healthy but would cut down hospital bills and also increase productivity.
Mrs Ayaitia said this in an address read for her during a health screening exercise held at Odorkor in Accra on Saturday.
The event organized by the Catholic Organization for Social and Religious Advancement (COSRA), was under the theme: "The Role of the Church in fighting Hepatitis 'B', Breast and Cervical Cancers".
About 500 people drawn from the Odorkor community were screened of Hepatitis 'B', Breast Cancer, malaria and eye testing. Body weights and
heights were also checked.
Mrs Ayaitia urged them to abstain from indiscriminate sex in order not to contract the HIV/AIDS.
She advised them to always have regular health checks to know their status.
Mr Eric Nukporfe, President of COSRA, said the screening formed part of the Church's social responsibility to the community in which it operates.
He said the exercise would be extended to other communities.
