Kwasi Gyabaah, a driver at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa Municipality, has appeared before the Dormaa circuit court for stealing a high tension metal rod belonging to the Volta River Authority and escaping from lawful custody.
Gyabaah pleaded guilty with an explanation and said he picked the rod along the road with the intention of handing it over to the Chief of
Nkrankwanta.
He would reappear on June 24.
Police Inspector George Kumah told the court that the accused and his colleagues were weeding a farm when he found the rod that was put there by some workers of VRA who were working there.
He said the accused person picked the rod with the intention of selling it to aluminium pot manufacturers but was arrested by security men.
Inspector Kumah said Gyabaah in a cautioned statement confessed having stolen the rod for the stated purpose but escaped from lawful custody and was re-arrested.
