Operators of pharmacy shops in the country have been advised to buy drugs from qualified and recognized pharmaceutical companies.
Mr Noah Acolatse, Chief Executive Officer of Pharma Information Consult, said the operators
must ensure that drugs bought bear vital information such as the name, registration number,
quantity and duly signed so that they could be traced for any lapse.
Mr Acolatse, the Country Director of Mepha Research Pharmaceutical Company based in
Switzerland, said both the pharmacists in charge of pharmacy shops and their assistants would be
held responsible if a client reports serious health problems after taking drugs dispensed at their shops.
He was addressing 600 pharmacy assistants from the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis at a day's
seminar on "Customer Care "in Takoradi.
Mr Acolatse said it was important that pharmacy assistants consulted pharmacists if they were not sure of the drugs requested by clients instead of using their discretion to dispense substitutes.
To avoid such mistakes by the assistant pharmacists, he said, there was the need for
pharmacists to be present always to ensure strict supervision or else close the stores until such
time that they returned from wherever they went.
