Ofori Christian, an unemployed, was on Friday arraigned before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with impersonation, by claiming to be a member of a National Security and a policeman.
Christian was also facing another charge of stealing police accoutrements and other personal effects of a police woman, who has travelled outside the country.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator, prosecuting told the court that sometime ago Christian introduced himself to the Suhum Police as a policeman and a National Security operative.
He said on May 30 at about 2030 hours, Christian driving a Mitsubishi saloon car with registration number GR6318V was intercepted at a check point at Suhum, being manned by the police and the military.
When the accused was asked to produce documents covering the car, he told them that the vehicle was an official one from the castle and that he was a member of the national security.
The prosecutor said when Christian was asked to produce his identification card; he could not do so, but said he was also a policeman but could not mention his service number or his station.
He said when the patrol team was not satisfied with his explanation, they decided to search the vehicle and an Identity Card (ID) belonging to Police Corporal, Janet Owusu, was found together with a toy pistol
On the strength of that, Christian was arrested and detained for investigations during, which he led the police to a house at Alajo in Accra.
The prosecutor said during a search at the house, police uniforms, boots, television set, rice cooker, gas stove, two radio cassettes
recorders, dressing mirror, stabilizers and a TV stand belonging to the police woman were found.
When asked how he came by the Police accoutrements he could not give any reasonable answer.
The prosecutor said it was later established that the said police woman had traveled outside the country and left her belongings in the room.
Before the police woman left the country, Christian introduced himself to her as a policeman and the woman therefore left her key with him to be given to her parents, who would come and collect her belongings.
The accused took advantage of the absence of the police woman to steal her belongings.
The prosecutor said all the items had since been retrieved.
