Mr Charles Appiah Aforo, Unit Committee Chairman of Akim Akwaboso in the Atiwa District, has appealed to the Assembly to assist the people to help raise their standard of living.
He told the Ghana News Agency that mining activities in the community had contaminated the River Birim, their main source of drinking water.
Mr Aforo said a few bore-holes in the town were not functioning adding that the residents were being compelled by circumstances beyond their
control to drink contaminated water from the Birim River.
On education, he said, there was a lot of work to be done on the Methodist JHS and primary schools.
Mr Aforo indicated that the buildings needed urgent renovation.
