The Kpando District is to benefit from a pilot-pepper project under the Micro-Finance and Small Loans Grant Scheme (MASLOG), Mr Joseph Z. Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, has said.
He said the seeds, which were imported from Brazil, had been improved on by the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission with a maturity period of between four to six weeks after planting.
Mr Amenowode, who visited some commercial agricultural projects in the district, said the choice of Kpando District stemmed from favourable
conditions and proximity to the Volta Lake.
They were the Tropigha Farms, Kpando Prisons farm, Myroc Farms Limited and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) project of the
Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA).
He said the farm, which is part of vegetable module of Youth in Agriculture project, is estimated to engage some 500 youths from the area.
Mr Amenowode said the government would make agriculture an attractive and income generating venture by rolling up innovative interventions.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, the Kpando District Chief Executive, appealed to the youth to grasp the opportunities and assured potential investors of availability of land for agriculture purposes.
