South Korea will host a meeting of global information and communication technology (ICT) standardization leaders in Seoul this week to discuss ways to enhance eco-friendly growth in the industry, the government said Monday.
The one-day gathering scheduled for Thursday aims to serve as a forum to exchange views on the latest ways to save energy and global trends in ICT
standard setting, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said.
Leaders from such organizations as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will discuss matters
such as cloud computing technologies and green growth strategies in the information technology sectors, it said.
Cloud computing allows users to save, store and retrieve data and files on remote third-party host servers at a reduced level of energy consumption.
Other issues to be discussed are privacy security and information technology convergence.
The ministry said over 300 people are expected to attend the meeting, including Karen Higginbottom, head of the Joint Technical Committee 1 set up by the ISO and IEC, and Bruce Gracie, chairman of the ISO's Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group.
The ISO, IEC and ITU have held joint regular meetings since 2001 to discuss outstanding issues on ICT standard setting. The event in South Korea
is the first hosted by the country.
