A mechanic apprentice, Denyo Yawtse, was on Wednesday convicted to a fine of GH360 by the Kade District Magistrate Court on charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
Yawtse, who was convicted on his own plea, would in default serve nine months in prison in hard labour.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay compensation of GH100 to his victim, Collins Kyere.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Thompson Salifu said the complainant was a little brother of a kiosk owner, Kyere, while Yawtse a native of Akefe in the Volta Region went to Akyem Kwamang to visit a family member.
He said on July 26 at about 0100 hours, Yawtse was seen by the complainant standing in front of his elder brothers kiosk, which was
located directly opposite the complainants house.
The complainant had mistaken the strange person in front of the kiosk for his brother hence he called him repeatedly but received no response.
The prosecutor said just as the complainant was approaching the kiosk, Yawtse took to his heels abandoning the kiosk which had been opened.
He shouted for help, which led to the arrest of Yawtse.
He was sent to the house of an assembly member where he confessed having stolen some items, which he had earlier hidden somewhere and led the assembly member and others to retrieve the items valued at GH16.10
The items included a pair of charley wote (bathroom sandals), 10 cups of rice, two canned fish, a tin of ideal milk, a packet of macaroni and four pieces of chewing gum.
