Mr. Donatus Achisiba, Nkoranza North District Director, Ghana Health Services, has urged pregnant women to dutifully and consistently attend ante-natal and post-natal clinics in order to prevent maternal and infant deaths.
He stressed the need for midwives and traditional birth attendants to refer cases beyond their competence to nearest hospitals without delay to save lives.
Mr. Achisiba was commissioning a Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) centre at Bono-Manso in the district.
He expressed regret about the incidence of maternal and infant deaths in the country in spite of the many health facilities and advised nursing mothers to pay regular visits to the health facilities.
Mr. Achisiba called on the community health volunteers in the area to visit the communities regularly and when they detect the outbreak of
diseases, they should immediately report to the health facilities for immediate attention.
He appealed to the community health committee to organise the people to mobilize resources to support health officials for effective management.
Madam Eva Saku, Nkoranza North District Public Health Nurse, urged officials at the facility to carry out public education in the catchment communities to encourage the people to guard against preventable diseases.
She advised the people to keep their surroundings clean and to take in good nutrition to save themselves against diseases.
The public health nurse emphasized the need for the people to work in harmony with the health officials towards the promotion of the growth of the facility.
The chief of Bono-Manso, Nana Menka Ameyaw, commended the government for constructing the health facility to enhance the good health of the
people and pledged to release land for the future expansion of the facility.
The Bono-Manso CHIPS centre would serve communities including Nipa Hiammoa, Dwenewoho, Asuoti, Nipa Ye Bad, Ayisofi and a number of settler farming hamlets.
