The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has appealed to the media to limit reportage on politics and sport in order to shift some attention to other sectors such as education, agriculture and health.
Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Apam on Friday, the Paramount Chief said it was unfortunate that the country's
airwaves are choked with programmes on politics and sports as if they had nothing to report on other sectors of the economy.
He called on the National Media Commission to organise training workshops for media practitioners to go out and gather news on all sectors, some of which were 'crying' for help.
"Stop disturbing the ears of the people with discussions on NDC-NPP."
"This lazy type of journalism must not be encouraged in a developing country like Ghana," he said.
Obrifo Ahor Ankobea said serious politics must be reserved for an election year, but for now, people are interested in issues such as quality of education, food security, health and good roads to make life easy and comfortable for them.
He further appealed to the media to engage qualified and knowledgeable people to do the work to avoid situations where a presenter displays
ignorance about issues on air.
Obrifo Ahor Ankobea also advised media houses to caution their presenters to desist from portraying their political lineage in their
presentations, saying that some people had stopped listening to some stations because of that behaviour.
