Life in Kashmir Valley returned to normal on Saturday, after authorities lifted curfew from all parts and the hardline Hurriyat Conference decided to exempt the day from the purview of its protest calendar.
The markets in Srinagar and other major towns were abuzz with activity as shopkeepers opened their outlets ahead of their usual schedule this morning.
While government offices remained closed on account of a public holiday in the state, private offices and other commercial establishments opened as per their normal schedule, officials said.
All modes of transport were operating on all routes in the city and other inter-district routes, they said.
A police spokesman said the situation across the Kashmir Valley was peaceful so far.
"The situation at this hour is normal and under control throughout the Valley," the spokesman said.
He said curfew has been lifted from all parts of the Valley but restrictions under section 144 CrPC, which prohibits assembly of four or more persons at any public place, were in force in Palhala, Delina (Baramulla district),
Pampore, Tral and Awantipora (Pulwama district) areas.
Authorities had on Friday imposed curfew in parts of four districts -- Srinagar, Pulwama, Kupwara and Baramulla -- following apprehensions of breach of peace after Friday prayers.
Kashmir Valley has been in the grip of violent protests since June 11 when a 17-year-old boy was killed after getting hit by a tear smoke shell during clashes at Rajouri Kadal in interior city in the northern Indian state.
