Five executive members of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), who clashed over the collection of tolls with their colleagues at Kotobabi, were granted bail by an Accra Circuit on Tuesday.
They are; Ahmed Gado Osman, Driver, James Quansah, Executive Member of the GPRTU, Kilu Iddrisu, Task Force Officer of the union, Thomas Lamptey, Tailor and Maxwell Kpelebi, Porter.
The court admitted them into bail in the sum of GH�10, 000.00 each with two sureties.
The court cautioned them to �let peace and tranquillity prevail until the determination of the matter�.
The court also asked accused persons to report to the Kotobabi Police Station once a week.
The case has been adjourned to November 2.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Superintendent Abacham Boye, told the court that the complainants are Sufyan Mohammed Kash, Secretary of the Pigfarm local branch of the GPRTU and Emmanuel Asante a porter of the Ayawaso Central of the union.
Supt Boye there have been a protracted dispute between the executive members of the Circle-Pigfarm- Odawna GPRTU regarding the collection of the daily tolls from drivers plying pigfarm circle routes.
He said the issue was resolved by the Greater Accra Regional Executives of the GPRTU, leading to the suspension of the first accused; Osman, who was
asked to hand over all documents in his possession to the Vice Chairman.
Supt Boye said Osman refused to comply with the directive despite several advised given to him by the Divisional Police Commander of Nima.
He said the first accused and others took the regional executives to court.
While the case was pending, Osman armed himself on October 14 and through the support of the four accused persons they took over Circle Branch office of the union, leading to their arrest.
