Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Prosper Agblor, acting Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has told police detectives to be up and doing to bring down crime.
He said the detectives needed to be more dedicated, professional and ahead of criminals in society.
DCOP Agblor was addressing personnel of the Department in Kumasi at the start of a two-day familiarization tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The tour was to afford him the opportunity to interact and share with the officers and men new methods of crime scene management, learn at first hand their operational challenges and how to address such challenges.
DCOP Agblor spoke of the need for CID personnel to be adequately trained to perform professionally to avoid lapses that often lead to suspects being
freed by the courts.
He advised them to respect the rights of suspects and be civil in the discharge of their duties.
DCOP Patrick E. Timbillah, the Regional Commander, drew attention to the need for team work to be encouraged between the uniformed and plain clothed officers in crime fighting.
He told them that without co-operation, crime evidence would be mixed up.
He also reminded them to make crime detection and prevention a top priority.
Superintendent John Ernest Owusu, the Regional Crime Officer, said the CID unit of the Regional Police Command, needs to be equipped to enhance operational efficiency.
He described as not healthy enough the present situation where the unit, serving all 12 divisions of the service, has only a vehicle, and even with that it is not in good shape.
