An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old apprentice mechanic to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old form two Junior High School student.
Benjamin Lavoe was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Georgina Mensah-Dastse.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mary Acquah prosecuting said the victim resided at Teshie with her father Aaron Dogbe, the complainant and Lavoe in the same house.
She said sometime in September this year, the convict asked the victim to accompany him to a nearby school "Help your Child", and on their way he pleaded to have sex with the victim for a fee but she refused.
The prosecutor said two weeks later the victim went to the convict for a cake of toilet soap to take her bath of which he obliged and told the victim to take it from his room.
She said immediately the victim entered the room, the convict followed and defiled her after which he brought out a ring and a talisman and warned her to keep the ordeal secret or would die.
The prosecutor said the victim out of fear failed to inform her father, and in October, victim's father observed that she was pregnant and took her to La General Hospital where it proved positive.
A report was made to the police who arrested the convict and after investigations charged with the offence.
