Fifty-two Metropolitan Guards of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly passed out on Thursday at Cape Coast with a call on them to exhibit self discipline and to respect authority.
The guards, who underwent a four-month training course, are to assist revenue collectors of the assembly to collect revenue.
They are also to assist the police in enforcing traffic regulations to help maintain law and order on the road as well as offer disaster
prevention services.
In a speech read on her behalf Mrs. Ama Benyiwa Doe, the Central Regional Minister, urged them to study the bye-laws guiding their operations to enable them to function effectively and efficiently without getting into trouble.
She said their behavior could either dent or uplift the image of the Assembly.
The Mayor of Cape Coast, Mr. Anthony Egyir Aikins, said the new guards would be on probation for one year within which any misconduct could
cause their dismissal.
Nana Kwamina Nyimfa XI, the Adontenhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, who chaired the function asked the guards to let truthfulness, hard work and
honesty be their watchwords.
