A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro has slapped a GHC600.00 fine on Inusah Campoare, a 21 year old Ivorian farmer, for unlawfully possessing 500 AAA cartridges.
Inusah pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of ammunition and would serve a three-year jail term in hard labour if he fails
to pay the fine.
Police Detective Inspector Charles Agovi told the court presided by Mr. Alexander Osei Tutu that Inusah was an Ivorian farmer resident at Kojokrom near Konkomia along the Ghana-Cote d'Ivoire border.
He said on October 31 this year, officials of Customs, Excise and Preventive service (CEPS) at the Kofibadukrom border post on foot patrol at
the border spotted Inusah carrying a sack that obviously contained some items.
Inspector Agovi said when the sack was seized and searched, 500 live cartridges without documents covering them were found in two cartons.
He said the Customs officials arrested him and handed him over to the police at Dormaa Ahenkro who after investigations arraigned him before court.
The court directed that the exhibit be sold and the proceeds paid into government chest.
