The Head of the Muslim Community in Saltpond Zongo, Sariki Mama Nomabo V, has commended Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West, for sponsoring two Muslims at Saltpond to perform the 2010 pilgrimage to Mecca.
Sariki Nomabo, known in private life as Alhaji Ahmed Ben Mahmood, a Principal Pharmacy Technician at the Ankaful Psychiatrist Hospital, also commended the MP for sponsoring a student in a Nursing Training College at a cost of GH¢1,500.00 and another one also from the Zongo at a Teacher Training College.
Sariki Nomabo made the commendation at a reception organized to welcome back the pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.
He said though they were grateful to the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, for the good work they were doing to improve the standard of living in the Zongo community, he would appeal to them to institute a scholarship scheme for the Zongo community to enable the youth to access education to support the development of the community.
"We have realized that no amount of support would help to develop better our community than giving our children better education," the Sariki said.
Sariki Nomabo said the people had started making voluntary contributions to improve street lighting system in the community.
He called on contractors working on roads rehabilitation in the community to improve the drainage system to stop perennial flooding in the area.
Alhaji Abdulai Yussif, a spokesman for the pilgrims, commended the government for making the pilgrimage peaceful and successful.
