Mr Martin Obeng Britwum, a student of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Manhyia Palace to act together to promote sustainable environmental campaign in the metropolis.
He said the KMA should involve the Asantehene, the landlord of Kumasi, to declare the whole of the metropolis “Otumfuo estate where his Majesty resides and a place you dare not litter let alone dump waste.”
Sharing his sentiments on the poor sanitation situation in the metropolis with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Britwum said it was only through the involvement of high profile personalities that the problem could be tackled.
He said the unsanitary conditions were a serious threat to investment and this demanded collaborative effort to solve the problem.
Mr Britwum also suggested the stepping up of environmental sanitation education in schools to implant in children the right attitudes towards their surroundings.
