A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey has ordered a businessman, and an apprentice mechanic, standing trial for alleged car theft to be held in prison remand.
Mohammed Yakubu, the businessman, and Alhassan Moro, the apprentice, pleaded not guilty to the crime and would re-appear on Tuesday, February 15.
The court heard from Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei that the complainant, Joseph Baah, is a transport operator at Suame in Kumasi.
On January 21, he sent his DAF truck to a garage at the Suame Light Industrial Area where Moro works as an apprentice mechanic for repairs and left for a funeral at his hometown, Breman-Asikuma.
The prosecution said when he returned he decided to go for the truck but to his amazement it had been stolen.
He therefore made a formal report to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Moro.
She said the apprentice mechanic told the police that Yakubu convinced him to sell the truck to him and took them to the place where they had gone to hide it.
It had been completely dismantled and the parts sold out.
Yakubu readily returned an amount of GH¢4,800.00, which he said was the money realized from the sale of the vehicle parts.
