The Headmaster of Osei Tutu II Senior High School at Tetrem, Mr Samuel Ekuoba Gyasi, has complained about the lack of a science laboratory in the school.
Students studying science have to travel twice a week to the Dwamena Akenten SHS at Offinso, a distance of about nine kilometres, for practical lessons.
The arrangement certainly is not the best and everything must be done to end it, he said, when the District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, presented books to the school.
These were part of a consignment of 20,000 books the assembly received from Awesome Books Incorporated of the United Kingdom and International Books Project in Kentucky, United States through Agape Village of Hope International, a local NGO for distribution to basic and second cycle institutions in the district.
Mr Gyasi said the school’s library could only seat 45 students while that of the computer laboratory has space for just 35. Given the fact that there are at least 60 students in each class, these facilities would have to be expanded.
He said the school also needed a standby generator in view of the frequent power cuts they have been experiencing.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku praised the teachers in the school for the good work they are doing under difficult and challenging conditions.
He said the assembly would do all it could to help create the right environment for effective academic work.
Mr Ignatius Mwinbe-Ere Der, the District Education Director, said the books were a big relief to schools in the area.
Osei Tutu II SHS, established in 1975, now has a student population of 1,513.
