Ex Warrant-Officer (WO) Eddie Commey, was at the weekend retained as the Chairman of the Mamprobi-Camara Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
He was returned unopposed with the Vice Chairman, Mr Edward Allotey, in an election supervised by the Greater Accra Regional Executives of the Union and officials of the Labour Department in Accra.
Mr Jonathan Acquah was elected as Secretary while Mr Isaac Amui and Mr Gabirel Ziorklui were elected as First Trustee and Second Trustee respectively.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the election, WO Commey said he acquired two vehicles for the Branch during his first four-year term with the support of his executives.
He said they also registered members of the Branch with National Health Insurance Scheme and acquired the Home Finance Unit Trust for them.
Ex WO Commey said he was determined to purchase land for the members to put up houses and register them with the Informal Sector of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to enable them to enjoy pension in their old age when they had stopped driving.
He spoke of plans to put old members on the pay roll of the Branch.
The Executives were sworn into office by Mr Edmund Amarteifio, Industrial Relation Officer of the Union.
The Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Robert Sarbah, advised drivers to avoid alcohol while driving and asked them to maintain their vehicle and comply with the Road Traffic Regulation to prevent accidents.
The Regional Vice Chairman advised the Executives to ensure transparency in their administration and to respect the members to gain their allegiance.
Mr Sarbah urged them to account regularly to the members to avoid suspicion and accusation of embezzlement to foster unity.
