The Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, on Friday attributed the peace and unity the country has enjoyed over the years to divine intervention and good political leadership.
“Ghana has moved through all kinds of troubles and hardships but at the end of the day, we have become a shining example on the African continent,” he said.
The Vice President said this when he joined the Berekum District Church of Pentecost congregation for the reopening of the Goka Pentecost Prayer Camp for 2011 in the Jaman North District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The Goka Prayer Camp, which was established 40 years ago, closes at the beginning of every January and reopens at the end of February.
The Vice President said although a trail-blazer in gaining independence, Ghana was later plunged into a series of coups, instability and starvation.
However, he said, after the difficulties, Ghana was now one of the icons of democracy on the African continent, adding “all these are due to prayers and patience we have for the country and we must continue to count our blessings for God to bless us more”.
Mr Mahama urged Ghanaians to be patient while government worked around the clock to serve their socio-economic and development needs.
He urged Ghanaians to continue to be patriotic and righteous so that God would grant us our needs in turns.
Apostle Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, in a sermon centered on forgiveness, called on Ghanaians not to spend time on rebuttals and curses, but pray for peace, unity and development.
The programme attracted patrons from all over the country, Togo, Ivory Coast and South Africa.
