Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Mr George Kuntu-Blankson, has advised assembly members to use their non-partisan positions to collaborate effectively with parliamentarians and District Chief Executives to avoid duplication of development projects.
Mr Kuntu-Blankson, MP for Mfantseman East in the Central Region, also appealed to chiefs throughout the country to liaise with assembly members to support them to develop their areas.
The Deputy Majority Chief Whip said this at a forum of chiefs and assembly members at Ekumfi-Essuekyia in the Mfantseman Municipality at the weekend.
The meeting afforded him the opportunity to brief the chiefs and assembly members on the state of development and what has been done to uplift the image of the constituency.
The forum also offered the newly elected assembly members the opportunity to know what was happening in the constituency towards achieving the better Ghana Agenda of the National Democratic Government under President Mills.
Mr Kuntu-Blankson said three reservoirs would be constructed at Immuna, Otuam and Mmobroto to supply water to the whole Ekumfi community.
Mr Kuntu-Blankson said a water project for the area had already been awarded on contract and would be completed in two years.
On education, Mr Kuntu-Blankson said seven basic and Junior High Schools were to be established in various communities.
According to him, work was on-going on two teachers quarters at Narkwa and Otuam, while a JHS was being built at Ekompoano.
He added that an Information Communication Technology (ICT) project would soon commence at Ekumfi-Essuekyia to promote the study of ICT among pupils.
Mr Kuntu-Blankson said 640 youths from the constituency had been engaged under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) while 90 others had received artisan training for self employment.
He said 70 women had received GH¢500 each, which had been disbursed as loans under the MASLOC (Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre) programme.
He hinted that under a Korean fund, a clinic would be constructed to serve the health needs of the people at Ekumfi Srafa-Aboano ,Ekumfi-Srafa kokodo and Ekumfi Etsebuado. Sod, he added, would also be cut for the construction of an ultra modern hospital at Essuekyia.
Mr Kuntu-Blankson announced also that contract for roads linking major towns in the constituency had been awarded to a firm called General Construction Limited.
The roads include Ekumfi-Abor Junction to Abor town, Ekumfi Nanaben to Ekumfi-Narkwa and Ekumfi Adansi to Ekumfi-Embrien.
The MP, who was accompanied by the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive Mr Kweku Hayfron and some party executives in the area, later presented food items and a cash donation of GH¢1,000 to the chiefs and the assembly members.
The Acting President of Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Imprem VII commended the MP for his initiative.
