The Akim Oda Magistrate’s Court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor on Thursday sentenced Kofi
Kumi, a trader, to 24 months in prison in hard labour for stealing GH¢2,618 from another trader’s shop.
Kumi pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Police Inspector Kingsley Antwi, told the court that Madam Emma Ahenkorah, the complainant, is a business woman who lives at Akim Oda while the convict is a trader from Agona Swedru.
He explained that on March 4, at about 1330 hours, the sales boy who was on duty at Madame Ahenkorah’s shop went to urinate.
Kumi, who was then monitoring his movements, entered the shop and stole cash of GH¢2,618 after breaking into the drawer containing the money.
Inspector Antwi said when the sales boy returned to the shop, the convict intentionally asked of a price of flour in the shop.
The boy, however, became suspicious of him and raised the alarm.
A policeman responded to the call and arrested Kumi. When he was searched GH¢2,551 was retrieved from him.
