Kwame Nyamekye, a 28 year old ex-convict has been remanded in prison custody for stealing a carton of Rothmans cigarettes by a Tarkwa Circuit court.
He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on April 20.
Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Edward paddy told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on March 16 this year at about 0730 hours, the complainant Hannah Sam, a trader, displayed some cartons of wares in front of her store at Tarkwa.
The prosecutor said the complainant entered the store and continued displaying her wares when she spotted Nyamekye standing in front of her wares and she asked what he wanted.
Inspector Paddy said Nyamekye responded that he was a stranger in town and wanted direction to a nearest “Waakye” (rice and beans)
joint. He said as soon as the complainant gave him the direction, she detected that one carton of Rothmans cigarette valued at GH¢25 had disappeared.
She quickly chased the suspect and a search on him revealed that it he had hidden the carton of cigarette in his shirt at his back. He was therefore sent to the Police station.
