Solomon Martey, a lotto writer, and Kennedy
Korankye, unemployed, were on Friday arraigned at the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for assaulting a woman.
They pleaded guilty with explanation but the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu entered a plea of not guilty for them and granted them GH¢600 bail with a surety each
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant and the accused persons lived in the same
neighbourhood at Akyem Abodom.
He said on February 08 at about 1830 hours, the complainant, Charity Bosompemaa, went to a public stand pipe to fetch water.
Whiles there, Martey and Korankye also went there to fetch water but when it came to the turn of the woman to fetch her water, the two accused persons stopped her and insisted that they should be allowed to fetch before her.
The prosecutor said when the complainant refused, the two men threatened to beat her up. Sensing danger, she removed her bucket under the pipe and allowed them to fetch.
In spite of her cooperation, Martey rained insults on her so the complainant also insulted him.
The prosecutor said Martey became furious and held the complaints head and pulled her hair and slapped her.
In the process, Korankye joined in the attack by kicking the complainant unto the ground.
When she attempted to pick a stone to defend herself, Korankye again kicked her down and together with Martey subjected her to severe
beatings.
The complainant, consequently, reported matter to the police who issued her with medical report forms to attend the Kade Government
Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
The accused persons were subsequently arrested.
