The Dormaa Circuit Court presided by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu has sentenced two persons to 15 years imprisonment for their involvement in separate robbery cases at Dormaa-Ahenkro.
Samuel Kyeremeh, alias “Abeewa” and Abubakar Abu, denied their involvement in the thefts they were charged with but failed to convince the court beyond any reasonable doubt regarding their plea.
In the case of Kyeremeh, who received eight years sentence, the prosecutor, Police Inspector Charles Agovi, told the court he conspired with one Kwabena Paul to break into the residence of a
medical doctor in Dormaa-Ahenkro on December 18, 2009 and made away with a Sony Camcorder Video camera, a Dell lap-top computer, a Motorola cell phone and a wallet that contained the doctor’s
complimentary cards, all valued at GHC1,950.00.
He said after police investigations, Kwabena Paul was apprehended, prosecuted and jailed for seven years but Kyeremeh bolted from the town and re-surfaced on February 19 this year.
Inspector Agovi said when picked by the police he claimed he collected all the items from Kwabena Paul in lieu of a debt the latter owed him.
Abu, a metal scrap dealer in Sunyani, on his part was caught selling female headgear, which was later confirmed to be part of a missing bale at the Dormaa-Ahenkro Tuesday market a fortnight earlier.
Prosecuting, Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the court that Abu was caught selling the stolen items at half the market price.
He said Abu mentioned several sources from where he claimed to have bought 80 pieces of the headgear for GHC85.00 but could not identify any of the sources in Sunyani.
Meanwhile, all the items stolen from the doctor’s residence as well as the remaining quantity of the headgear seized from Abu have
been returned to their respective owners on the orders of the court.
