The Association of Friends Forever (ASOFF) that promotes friendship development in Churches, has urged Churches and corporate institutions in the country to be compassionate to support the needy and under-privileged in society as the world
remembers Christ’s sacrifice to mankind.
“Easter is about sharing Christ’s greatest love but more equally important is also about promoting health brotherliness through genuine
friendship in Christ Jesus,” Mr Emmanuel Fianko, President of ASOFF, told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday in Accra.
He said when Christ Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment; He summed the whole Ten Commandments into two – One’s love to God and the love to one’s brother or sister.
“This is what must guide the world as people strive to make life better for themselves and expect that there is better hope somewhere (in Heaven) for them,” Mr Fianko added.
Explaining further the call, Mr Frazer Liadey, Vice President of the ASOFF said it was important that people and especially Christians
sought to make life burdens lighter for the under-privileged and the needy in society.
He lauded JOY FM Station for their annual Easter Soup Kitchen concept, which he said every year revived hope and put life into many who were either not so fortunate to have decent meals or hardly get food to eat because of poverty.
“Loving one another is a command we can't disobey. One way we can achieve this is to uphold the importance of friendship in deed and in
action,” Mr Francis Quaye, ASOFF’s Financial Director said and noted “this is what ASOFF stands for.”
“If you can add one more friend to your "good" friends this Easter and introduce Christ to him or her, you will succeed in making the world a better and safer place to live in,” Mr Quaye urged.
The Association aims to organise series of prayer sessions for the needy, orphans and the nation this Easter in addition to other activities to promote friendship in Ghana and beyond.
ASOFF, Mr Quaye said, would popularize the celebration of World Friendship Day, which falls on the first Sunday of August each year, in Ghana and in particular Churches in the country.
