Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has called on the people of the region, to let the significance of Easter to unite them towards the socio economic development of the area.
He said if the celebration of the occasion signified the re-unification of man to his creator, through the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then the diverse social, economic, political, tribal and religious backgrounds should be the necessary ingredients for progress and development of the region.
The Regional Minister expressed regret that litigation had been a barrier to socio- economic prosperity of the region and unless efforts
were made to either drastically reduce, if not eliminate, posterity would accuse the leaders of today for having done them a great disservice.
Mr Nyamekye-Marfo, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Sunyani, on Thursday, expressed regret that intransigency and entrenched positions, as opposed to compromised stands taken by some chiefs, community and opinion leaders and family heads, were worsening the situation.
He stressed that, it was imperative for such personalities, especially kingmakers and family heads to open their doors for at quick resolution of land and chieftaincy disputes that were drawing
back the region’s clock of progress.
The Regional Minister also advised drivers to be patient and disciplined on the roads and highways, in their efforts to maximize profits, to avoid accidents and loss of lives during the Easter festivities.
He explained that carnage on the roads during this festive season was in contrast to the meaning of the occasion because “Jesus Christ
died to save mankind, and that, the celebration of such spiritual and historical event should not lead to unnecessary loss of lives”.
Mr Nyamekye-Marfo reiterated that the government, founded on social democratic principles and values, did not believe in
lop-sidedness in the distribution of the national cake but was committed and ready to ensure fair and equitable allocation of those resources.
Hence, as a region we must position ourselves through mutual understanding and unity to make judicious use and proper utilization of our fair share”, the Regional Minister said.
