Alhaji Issahaque Salia, Upper West Regional Minister, has said despite the good intentions and efforts of the government, all development associations had a role to play in the development of their communities.
He appealed to development associations to emphasize on education.
“The effort of government so far is to increase the provision of school infrastructure in many communities and make education accessible. We should reciprocate by urging parents to send their
children to school and to ensure they stay till completion”, Alhaji Salia said.
Alhaji Salia was addressing members of the Bawiesibai Development Association at its 7th Annual General Meeting of the association at Bawiesibai in the Sissala East District.
He appealed to development associations to collaborate with district assemblies and other development agencies in realizing the development aspirations of the people.
Alhaji Salia said the government had given priority to agriculture and had provided tractors and fertilizers at subsidized prices to farmers to increase food production.
He said government had also unveiled a new programme on cotton production to open opportunities for interested farmers to undertake
large scale production of the crop to improve their economies and livelihoods.
Alhaji Salia therefore advised people in the region take advantage of those programmes, saying: “Our destiny lies largely in agriculture and we must encourage our people to engage more in scientific and to modernise agriculture to boost productivity”.
