Mr Solomon Akakiya, assemblyman for Yorogo-Gabisi in the Bolgatanga Municipality, has appealed to the government to provide his area with portable water.
The Assemblyman, who made the appeal during a clean-up exercise, expressed worry that many people in his electoral area are compelled to rely on on pounds and few wells.
“It is sad to note that some parts of my electoral area still take their drinking water from pounds and few wells which dry off during
the dry season,” Mr Akakiya said.
He said taking into consideration the population of his electoral area, it would need about seven boreholes, one in each community to save the people from getting diseases and that the area also needed at least two dams.
Mr Akakiya also called on the government to provide his electoral area with a school block for a Junior High School and additional primary school block to cater for the growing population of the area.
He said about 90 per cent of children in the area commute very long distances to attend schools.
“My area also needs electricity, most of the people in my electoral area sleep in darkness making it difficult for school children to study in the night and the people to undertake economic ventures that need electricity”.
The President of Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Mr Bismark Adongo, educated the community members about the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).
He told them that SADA was not going to loan money to the people but would rather concentrate on the modernization of agriculture, provide
strong support for private sector and infrastructure development.
He appealed to farmers and women to constitute themselves into groups to be able to access support from SADA.
