The European Commission says it will hold a special meeting of EU farm ministers in Luxembourg on Tuesday to discuss the E.coli outbreak. The European Commissioner for Health And Consumer Policy John Dalli said the contagion across Europe is contained.
He said, "The information that it, it is coming in to us shows that there is no spreading of the contamination. That it is contained and that the incidence infect is being reduced on a daily basis."
European Union farm ministers will try to agree on a financial aid package for fruit and vegetable producers whose sales have been hit by the outbreak. Spanish farmers, say they've lost sales costing them 200 million euros a week, may claim compensation. German scientists continue to work on confirming whether an organic vegetable farm was the source of the outbreak. Many of those infected have developed heemolitic uraymic syndrome, a potentially deadly complication attacking the kidneys. The outbreak has killed 22 and infected 2,300 people across Europe.
