Government’s decision to implement the fee free Senior High School (SHS) education as from 2017academic year, has been received with great joy by a number of people.
There was spontaneous jubilation by a large number of people including parents, guardians, school children and those who love progress. Madam Sophia Monney, a house wife, told the Ghana News Agency at the weekend that she praised God for this announcement and all those who value education should pray for the success of the scheme.
She said there were parents who have more than two children in some Senior High Schools and there was no rebate on the number of children one has and therefore she views this new scheme as a blessing. At Akuapeman Senior High School, the guest of honour, President Nana Akufo -Addo announced the implementation of the scheme and its effective date.
Miss Pearl Agyei –Baah, a form three pupil of St. Martha's Junior High School, said she was privileged for the scheme to come at time she would be entering SHS , adding that ,'the scheme will bring a big financial relief to my parents.
Mr. Robert Kwasi Abbasah, Chairman of the Joe Mens branch of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), said the action of the government was an indication of more good things to come. He said it has also stripped down all doubting ‘Thomases’ who disbelieved in the ability of President Nana Akuffo Addo to perform.
