The exercise is to sensitise the congregation on the GAMA-SWP support in the provision of toilet facilities and water supply at homes at half cost to reduce unhygienic conditions in the communities.

The project is being sponsored by the World Bank.

The exercise, led by Mr Graham Sarbah, the Co-ordinator of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly GAMA-SWP, was held at the Kaneshie Methodist, Agege Global Alliance, Bubuashie Anglican, and Korle Gonno Anglican churches and Korle Gonno Mosque in Accra.Mr Sarbah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, stressed the need for religious bodies to encourage their members to attach special importance to environmental sanitation in order to reduce the outbreak of diseases by providing toilet facilities in their homes.

He said GAMA-SWP sought to facilitate the installation of 19,000 toilet facilities at half price in households to improve environmental conditions.He said landlords are required by law to make provision of toilet facilities in their homes but since some of them could not afford the cost the GAMA-SWP had intervened to register them and pay half of the cost.

The GAMA-SWP would pay 2,000 Ghana cedis out of the 4,000 Ghana cedis supposed to be paid by landlords for the construction of the facility.  Reverend Jonathan Gordon at the Kaneshie Methodist Church expressed gratitude to the GAMA-SWP and the World Bank for extending their programme to the churches.   He advised the church members to embrace the project to prevent the outbreak of diseases and keep their environment clean.
