Staff of the National Communications Authority (NCA) have donated GH¢10,000.0000 worth of disaster relief items to support the mudslide victims in Sierra Leone.
The items which were donated through Madam Umu Hawa Tejan-Jaloh, the Sierra Leonean High Commissioner in Ghana on Tuesday, included mattresses, pieces of clothes, blankets, bed sheets and some bales of used clothing.
A statement issued by the NCA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Wednesday, said the staff, who were welcomed by the High Commissioner, also signed the book of condolence on behalf of NCA, to express their sympathy to the people of Sierra Leone.
Mrs Mavis Obeng-Aidoo, who led the delegation to make the presentation, recounted that the staff of the Authority, were moved by the plight of the victims, as the disaster had claimed more than 400 lives and rendered thousands homeless.
She said the donation was to help alleviate the suffering of victims and to deepen the relationship between Ghana and Sierra Leone. “The staff voluntarily made cash donations, which were used to purchase the relief items,” she explained.
Madam Tejan-Jaloh expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone for the gesture and commended all the other groups and individuals who had made various donations in support of the victims of the tragedy.
“The relief items presented will go a long way to relieve these victims,” the High Commissioner said.
