The donation was to support the Association’s medical scheme, which supports members in paying their medical bills besides the contribution to the Associations Silver Jubilee celebration.

Mr Edward Ameyibor, General Secretary of SSNIT Pensioners Association, said the scheme would support the payment of critical illness of their members to bridge the affordability gap.

He said the Association has about 60,000 members nationwide with only about 150,000 members being pensioners under SSNIT and called on pensioners who have not joined the Association to register with them.

Mr Ameyibor said the problem of individual pensioners was health and that the cost of payment of medical bills was a problem to many pensioners and this has led to the new measures being put in place to support their health delivery. 

He said the cost of registration to the scheme was two Ghana Cedis and a monthly contribution of four Ghana Cedis and that this amount would support members to survive medically.

Mr Ameyibor said some pensioners were earning high amount of money as pensions, while some earn as low as GHC 200 and it is important for all stake holders to be concerned about their welfare.

He called for unity among pensioners in the country and urged government to support the Association in its quest to transform and uplift the welfare of its members.

 Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Board Chairman of the SSNIT and Dr John Ofori Tenkorang, Director General of SSNIT, both made the presentation to the leadership of the Association.
