The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Tuesday launched a research fund, christened, “UHAS Research Fund” to equip members of faculty to get involved in cutting edge research in the University.
The Fund is resourced by up to 10 per cent funds from the University’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and will provide applicants with seed grants of up to GHC7,500; Investigator-led grants of up to GHC25,000; Multidisciplinary grants of up to GHC10,000; and Faculty development grant, which will help faculty to further their education of up to GHC20,000.
Professor John Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of the University, who launched the fund said the initiative would position the institution to compete for larger grants in the international arena.
He said the main focus of the University for the year, 2019 would be the giving out of seed grants and investigator-led grants. The Vice Chancellor said securing funding for research had been the University’s greatest challenge due to the competitiveness of existing funds and hoped that the “UHAS Research Fund” would help members of faculty to conduct research for quality teaching and development of the University.
Professor Fred Binka, a former Vice Chancellor of the University said the University system encouraged research to enable members of faculty to strive in the University environment. He encouraged the faculty to work together in teams to support research work and also secure greater grant applications outside the University.
