“Africa is the continent of all expectations and the front and centre of the world. By rising to Africa’s challenges, the world would be tackling international geostrategic issues. Africa’s moment has come. This century must be Africa’s.”
These were the words of His Majesty King Mohammed V1, King of Morocco at the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla, Morocco, themed: “Building a Powerful and Modern Africa Dedicated to its Youth”
King Mohammed V1 said that he was convinced of this because Africa’s population is the youngest in the world. He noted that the fast pace of the demographic transition means that Africa must launch major development projects that can transform facts on the ground especially in such areas as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure and the fight against poverty.
He said that the youth need to be encouraged, trained, empowered and, above all, valorised. He pointed out that they must be trained to turn today’s economic potential into tomorrow’s reality and that failure in this area would be a disaster of epic proportions, not only in Africa but in other regions as well.
He called on all to work towards the adoption of pertinent, tailored responses so that our young people may realise that their future is in Africa and for Africa.
King Mohammed V1 initimated that Africans need to put Africa on a path towards progress and emancipation so that she takes her rightful place on the global stage.
He hoped that the recommendations that would be adopted at the end of the forum would help identify new forms of co-operation as well as innovative synergies that would provide guidance to political leaders and economic decision makers fo the benefit of Africa.
The Crans Montana Forum is a Non-Governmental International Organization established since 1986, whose mission is to build a more humane world.
