In the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis the exercise started late, as most of the people engaged to undertake the exercise are not experienced to handle it the equipment.
Markets
The exercise is expected to cover markets in Sekondi, Taokradi, Essikado-Keten Sub-metros, Effia-Kwesiminstsim, Shama, Mpohor, Wassa East, Nzema East, Jomoro and Ahanta West.
Other areas include Prestea Huni-Valley, Amenfi East, Tarkwa Nsuaem and Ellembelle District was originally assigned to Zoomlion for deployment of 1,698 workers, to cover 117 markets.
The newly selected company for the project was ideitified as Aslord Limited and AMI, a cleaning company based in Takoradi.
The national disinfection exercise, led by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development was launched last Saturday with Zoomlion Ghana, being the lead company.
The exercise is being coordinated by the various MMDAs in the country.
Contractor changed
However, later Sunday afternoon, there was an order, which stopped Zoomlion Ghana from carrying out the task. The exercise was to be undertaken by a new company, which seems not too prepared to carry out the task.
Those contracted to carry out the disinfection were not well equipped. The contractor as of 8am now took delivery of some spraying machines in boxes and technicians from dealers started assembling them after 9:30am.
Some experts say some of the machines did not have enough pressure to push the chemicals to every conner of the market.
The process
The use of drones, the high-pressure motorised machines and vehicles that were expected to be used to carry out the task were missing.
At the Takoradi Central market circle, for instance, a few motorised praying machines used were not effective as compared to those used in other regions where vehicles and drones and many hand thermal fogger spraying machines and booms were used.
Various places visited by the Graphic Online indicated that the young men contracted to carry out the spraying did not have any form of training.
Kokompe
At Kokompe, one of the sprayers was virtually running with the machine at his back with no supervision spraying with indoor machine.
Some residents say the kind of work done in other 13-regions compare to what is happening in the metropolis and other parts of the metropolis was not the best.
The Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah who was at the market earlier said a new company has taken over from Zoomlion but did not provide further explanation.
