The Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s (TMA) has received 1,000 tree and ornamental flower seedlings from Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited for the beautification of the newly opened Tema Motorway interchange.

The President, during the opening of the interchange, planted one of the seedlings to start the beautification process and to commemorate the World Environment Day.

Mr James Rajamani, Chief Executive Officer of Kingdom Exim, speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the opening of the Motorway interchange, said the donation was their little contribution towards the harbour cum industrial city beautification.

Mr Rajamani said the flower seedlings would be planted in the inner perimeter of the interchange while the trees would be for the periphery.

He added that his outfit was collaborating with the Assembly to implement the Greening Tema Project which formed part of the Tema Restoration Agenda.

He stated that the beautification of the interchange fell within the greening project informing their decision to present the seedlings, adding that all public schools in Tema would also receive similar beautification to make their environments serene for learning and teaching.

The CEO said as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Kingdom Exim would fund the construction of a police post for the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) to ensure police presence at the interchange.

Mr Rajamani further indicated that they would provide a tow vehicle dedicated to the removal of broken down vehicles on the interchange to allow the free flow of traffic.

Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said planting the plants in and around the interchange would not only beautify the place but would also deter encroachers.

Mr Anang-La added that a well lined up tree layout on the periphery of the road would prevent the indiscriminate siting of billboards along the stretch.
