Mr Justice Yaw Appau, Supervising High Court Judge in Kumasi, has advised budding lawyers to be courageous in the course of practicing their professional career.
He said courage and bravery were the hallmarks of the legal profession and that there was the need for lawyers to always stick to their principles in the course of arguments at the law courts.
Mr Justice Appau gave the advice at the opening of the third annual Law Week celebration of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Law School in Kumasi on Wednesday.
The weeklong celebration is under the theme: "Towards a More Responsible Exercise of the Rights to Freedom of Speech and Expression: The Role of the Law Student".
Mr Justice Appau urged the students to constantly read to keep them abreast with the current trend of their profession.
Professor Ofori Amankwaah, Dean of the Faculty, said plans were underway to develop a post-graduate law programme at the faculty.
He said there was need for the country to increase the enrolment number of lawyers in order to reduce the shortage in the legal field.
Mr Stephen Azantilow, President of the KNUST Law Students' Union (LSU), called for a responsible exercise of the freedom of speech and expression in the country.
