Construction has officially commenced on a $10 million Korea-funded ICT Centre at the University of Ghana.
The Ghana-Korea Centre of Excellence for ICT-Based Startups and Research is being constructed on land allocated by the university and is expected to be completed in 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon Awandare, described the project as a landmark investment and a symbol of deepening bilateral ties.
“I am told that this is the largest grant ever from the Republic of Korea to Ghana, and this is a demonstration of the true fraternity and ever-deepening relations between the two countries,” he said.
The Korean Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Park Kyongsig, described the project as a token of friendship and shared optimism about its long-term impact on the Ghanaian startup landscape.
“This project has two pillars. One is the ICT centre. We will also have an incubation centre for the startups. We will support them, and maybe one of these startups will be a leading company not only in Ghana but in the world. We have high expectations,” he noted.
The Centre is expected to serve as a hub for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, supporting the government’s efforts to expand the country’s digital economy and nurture homegrown tech enterprises
