AFS Intercultural Exchange Programs (IEP) Ghana is thrilled to announce that 11 outstanding young women from across Ghana have been selected to participate in the highly competitive 2025 Global STEM Accelerators Virtual Exchange Program, an award-winning global learning opportunity that is reshaping the future of education and leadership for girls in STEM.
The Global STEM Accelerators, organised by AFS Intercultural Programs in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Social Impact Strategy (Penn CSIS), is a rigorous 12-week virtual exchange program. It is specifically designed to break gender barriers in STEM and equip girls aged 15–17.5 with the tools to become innovators, leaders, and changemakers in their communities.
Through this immersive program, scholars receive:
· Hands-on STEM training from global experts
· Social impact education to design solutions for real-world challenges
· Global competence learning to foster intercultural understanding
· An Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact
· Access to a vibrant international alumni network
This year's scholarship placements are particularly meaningful for AFS Ghana, marking the success of a targeted national outreach strategy to Ghana Education Service STEM Senior High Schools. A shining example of this effort is Abomosu STEM SHS, where four students were selected, an incredible outcome that directly reflects our intensified engagement.
"We are proud to support these bright young women as they take a bold step forward in their STEM journeys," said Diana Sey, Partner Director at AFS Ghana. "Virtual exchanges like the Global STEM Accelerators are more than just online programs, they are transformational platforms that connect young people across borders, unlock opportunities, and inspire global citizenship."

AFS Ghana continues to champion virtual exchange as a vital and inclusive pathway to global education. Especially in resource-constrained settings, virtual programming enables talented students to access high-impact, global learning experiences without borders.
As we celebrate these 11 scholars, we are also using this milestone to accelerate conversations with potential IT partners to enhance digital readiness and expand access to future STEM-focused opportunities across Ghana.
