Rev. Robert Owusu, Director of Shalom International School in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District, has appealed to the government to address the tax burdens on private schools to enable them to better support national educational development.
Speaking at the school’s third Speech and Prize-Giving Day, themed “Providing Quality Education,” Rev. Owusu urged the Ghana Revenue Authority to reconsider its perception of private schools as profit-driven enterprises.
He stressed that private institutions are complementing government efforts to fight illiteracy and unemployment by expanding access to education and therefore need tax relief to continue contributing meaningfully.
Mrs. Lucy Jacinta Nkansah, the District Director of Education, advised parents to prioritize their children’s education over quick financial gains, especially emphasizing the need to support girls to realise their full potential.
Otumfuo Amoah Sasereku IV, Omanhene of the Twifoman Traditional Area, also called for a revival of Ghanaian cultural values. He urged the government to promote the use of local languages during public events to preserve the nation’s heritage.
